REQUIRED: Listening
You must listen to the provided click track while you record to make sure that your part lines up with everyone else!
REQUIRED: Headphones (Winds/Percussion)
You must listen to the click track with headphones when you record. This is so we don’t hear it on the final recording!
REQUIRED: Clap!
Follow the instructions on the recording by clapping on count 9 at the beginning and following the instructions at the end.

VISUAL CLICK TRACK
Note: A choreography tutorial video is available below the click track. You must record using the click track.
Important Note 1: The tutorial and click track have been recorded from the back in order to facilitate mirroring. Please record your video from the front.
Important Note 2: While you record, you’ll want to make sure that you are facing the camera and your entire body is visible in the frame throughout.
Important Note 3: RedSteppers may play the audio out of a loudspeaker rather than using headphones for ease of choreography. Please still adhere to the ‘clap’ and ending choreography guidelines.

STEP 2
Download and Practice your music!
Practice Slowly
Make sure that you understand every rhythm, articulation, and technical passage.
It is important every note, rhythm, and articulation matches from player to player. Be sure to read your music, as it may be different than your memory serves.
Get used to the space
Practice in the space where you’ll record, so that it’s super easy when it’s time to perform.
Practice Performing
Once you can comfortably play all notes and rhythms at tempo, practice along with the clicktrack to make sure your pitch and timing is spot on.
STEP 3
Prepare your personal recording studio
Pick a Tidy Location
Choose an uncluttered indoor area, with a blank wall behind you.
RedSteppers, Flag Corps, and Twirlers may perform in an outdoor, open location as long as there are no distractions in the background.
Erase Background Noise
Turn off all fans, A/C (ask permission first!), TV, and anything else that could interfere with your recording such as pets and other members of your household.
Turn off Notifications
Set your phone to Airplane Mode and Do Not Disturb to avoid ruining your best take.
STEP 4
Frame your perfect angle
Film in Landscape (Sideways)
Be sure to use the rear camera on your phone for the highest quality!
Make sure YOU are in the frame!
Set-up your video so that you are facing your camera and your face, instrument, and equipment are clearly visible.
Check your Lighting
Make sure the brightest light in the room is in front of you! Check for any shadows or dark spots.
STEP 5
Record like a pro.
REQUIRED ATTIRE
Click your instrument/role to see the required attire.
Winds/Percussion/Drum Majors/Twirlers
All performers: Hats are not to be worn in any videos.
Get ready
Make sure your chair, music stand, music, and headphone cables are set-up that you can quickly and easily start the click track and get into position to perform.
If Outdoors (Redsteppers/Flag Corps): Make sure that there are no distractions in the background and that your whole body and equipment are in the frame.
Start recording BEFORE you start the click track
Count the clicks while you get ready to play. On the 9th Click, Clap 1-time.
Record!
Record straight through the piece, counting through all rests and the 9 extra clicks at the end.
WIND PERFORMERS: For both audio and video purposes, do not do any horn moves throughout the recording.
